Cottonwood trees are a common street tree, and are the largest native broadleaf trees in Colorado.
Their wide-spreading roots are helpful in reducing erosion and slowing flood water runoff. They are also a popular habitat for various forms of local wildlife.
Though some cottonwood trees can live over 100 years, many in urban areas only have a lifespan of around 30 years.
Their height is between 50 to 80 feet tall.
