BLUFF LAKE NATURE CENTER

CAMPUS IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT

Join us in an exciting period of growth and sustainability, as Bluff Lake embarks on a Campus Improvements Project on our own 123-acre property, located in Northeast Denver.

Bluff Lake Nature Center (BLNC) is a nonprofit agency that owns and manages a unique urban wildlife refuge and outdoor classroom in Denver. BLNC is a place where people and nature coexist and thrive. Committed to our mission, BLNC educates individuals to be engaged, resilient, and curious; conserves a natural area in the city; furthers equity in outdoor access; and nurtures the health and well-being of communities and ecosystems. BLNC is Denver’s largest open space managed as a native habitat, and Denver’s only nonprofit nature center.

OPPORTUNITY

With the growth of the neighborhoods around our site, general visitation and our education programs at BLNC have grown significantly.

We believe that in order to sustainably manage the site and continue providing outdoor experiences in the city, we need to do major campus improvements.

Currently the site has no utility hookups, very little infrastructure, and our team works out of an office several miles away. This project would provide power and running water; a building to house a welcome center, classrooms, offices, and a community space; and additional site improvements.

VISION

Bluff Lake has selected the design team of Shape Architecture and Superbloom Landscape Architecture & Planning to be our partners on this journey as we explore the possibilities for Bluff Lake’s sustained future.

Shape, Superbloom, and Bluff Lake’s shared philosophy of contextual, ecologically-inspired design, proven experience and commitment to crafting meaningful connections between people and the land make this team an ideal partner to bring Bluff Lake’s inspiring vision to life.

Through a combination of public and private support, Bluff Lake is fundraising over $8,250,000 for this project.

Did you know that BLNC donors in Colorado can take advantage of the 50% Childcare Tax Credit of up to $100,000 per year for qualifying donations, in addition to other state and federal charitable contribution credits?

As an example, a three-year pledge of $10,000 per year would be counted as a $30,000 gift to Bluff Lake, but could cost the donor only $3,800 per annum after taxes (33.8% of gift impact)!

Thanks to everyone who has committed to the campaign so far - you have helped Bluff Lake secure over $6,400,000 as of September 2024! Some of the donors and organizations who have joined us ($15,000+) include:
